Faith / Void - Split 12"

Remastered colour vinyl version of this classic split on Dischord Records. I don't need to say anything about this release really. You all know what the deal is. This repress has been out for a while and I didn't want to leave it any longer. I snoozed on those Minor Threat colour represses and now I'm kicking myself for not getting them.

Capitalist Casualties / Lack Of Interest - Split 7"

Here's a new split 7" that came with issue 23 of Short Fast & Loud Zine. New songs from two old power violence bands. The record was made by Six Weeks Records and you can still buy it from them and a bunch of other distros.

Mentally Challenged

Here's some 7"s I scored off ebay. I'm pretty sure this is the guitarist from Mind Eraser's band and possibly the drummer too, though it sounds nothing like that band. It's more of a noisy chaotic hardcore punk sound. Really weird stuff. There's some songs up on their myspace if you want to check them out.

Mentally Challenged - Doctors Lawyers Cops + Priests 7"
No idea on the pressing info for this. Doesn't seem to be on a label so maybe it was self released. The B- side is a cover of The Misfits "Bloodfeast".

Mentally Challenged - Disappeared b/w Surveillance 7"
Released on Deer Healer Records and limited to 300 copies.

I've been trying to collect all the Dear Healer singles and now all I need is that damn Dry Rot one. Whoever runs that label has great taste in music.

KVLT ELK - Cassette

KVLT ELK is a doom duo from Perth. It's Brendan and Mickey from Drowning Horse making even slower noise than that band with lots of feedback and effects. This is one long 18 minute track recorded in the laundry at a house party. It's actually a really decent recording but I'm not surprised considering how loud it was in there. I don't know if this was a one off thing but I hope there's more KVLT ELK shows/recordings soon.

I picked this up at a recent Drowning Horse show which was also recorded for an upcoming tape. If your into doom, definitely check them out too. They've got one song up on their myspace and hopefully some releases out soon. Here's a hell grainy photo from the show.

D.R.I. - 4 Of A Kind

Haven't got any new records to post this week so I pulled this one out of my collection. This was the first D.R.I. album I ever heard and it's still my favorite. They were pretty much a full 80s thrash band by this stage and after hearing this album I got into other thrash crossover stuff like Gang Green and Suicidal Tendencies.

This was released by Metal Blade Records in 1988 but my copy is an Australian pressing made by Virgin Records. I've found this with some of my other early punk records that the Australian pressings have Virgin labels. Kinda odd.

The first time I heard D.R.I. was from the skate video "Welcome To Hell" that came out in the 90s. It featured the song "Do The Dream" from this album during the stack section. Amazing video, I must have watched it everyday for years. It had a really good soundtrack that got me into a lot of other great bands like Misfits and Lard. Here's a video of the stack section, still just as painful to watch now as it was back then.

Ceremony - Rohnert Park LP

New album from Ceremony on Bridge Nine Records. It's a bit more experimental than what they've done in the past. I think this is a good thing, it's pretty boring to keep making the same records. Doesn't mean I like it as much as their earlier output but I still enjoyed it. It's an interesting listen, no song sounds the same as the next. I don't know the pressing info on this yet but the red vinyl was the rarest colour and I picked up the lyric book as part of the pre-order package.

Pig Heart Transplant / Juhyo - Split 7"

Here's a new record from noise makers Pig Heart Transplant. This ones a split with another noise band called Juhyo, whom I've never heard of before but their side was pretty good too. Really nice hand screened packaging designed by Feeding. Released by Hear More Records and limited to 300 hand numbered copies. You can still buy it here, but be quick.

Corrupted - Anciano 7"

This is Corrupted's first 7" from 1995. It was put out by Japan Overseas Records and I'm pretty sure this is the first press. Came with sticker and a lyric sheet that I can't read. Brutal cover art. Brutal music.

Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come

This album is an absolute classic. Epitaph Records have just remastered and reissued this on double LP for the first time. Apparently the original pressing suffered from poor sound quality due to it being a lengthy recording crammed onto one record. The first 500 were on blue vinyl which are all sold out but you can still get the black version here. Came with the Refused Are Fucking Dead DVD too, stocked!

Thou - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For

This is the cassette version of Thou's latest release on Robotic Empire. It was limited to 200 and came with a patch. I'm a sucker for cassette releases and they did such a nice job on this, that I couldn't resist. I'll probably end up wearing away the vinyl from playing it too much so it's good to have a back up tape.

Asbestosdeath - Dejection Unclean 10"

Asbestosdeath were a stoner/doom band that recorded two 7"s before changing their name to Sleep. This is the four songs from those 7"s collected together on a 10" by Southern Lord. Three of these songs ended up being re-recorded for the first Sleep album but it's cool to hear the raw early versions here.

Snake Apartment - Paint The Walls

I'd never heard of Snake Apartment before, but I saw this in a distro and decided to give it a shot. Glad I did, it's a good record. They've got a hell 90s grunge sound mixed with noisy punk. If you like Pissed Jeans, Dry Rot and that sort of thing then you should check this band out. This was put out by Parts Unknown Records in 2007 and was limited to 500 copies on green marble vinyl.

Godflesh - Love And Hate In Dub

Remix album of Songs Of Love And Hate released by Kreation Records. Seeing as this never got released on vinyl when it first came out, this is technically the first press. Fire splatter vinyl limited to 250. Not my favorite Godflesh release but it's alright. Good chill out record.

More Thou

Trying to keep up with Thou's discography is quite a task. They've put a lot of stuff out over the last few years and don't seem to be slowing down. Their new split with Moloch is available for pre-order on 12" and cassette from here, for those interested. I've raved on about this band before so I hope you're listening to them if you weren't already. Here's some new one's I've picked up recently.

Thou - The Retaliation Of The Immutable Force Of Nature
Two song 12" put out by Gilead Media. This is the 3rd press on black vinyl limited to 200 copies. Came with poster, insert and patch. The cover art kinda reminds me of the Mammoth Grinder - Rage And Ruin LP.

Thou / Mohoram Atta - Degradation Of Human Life
Split 12" released by Halo Of Flies and Feast Of Tentacles. 1000 pressed all on black vinyl. Thou do a cover of Minor Threat's "Screaming At A Wall".

Thou / Salome - Our Enemy Civilization
Split 12" released by Vendetta Records. The Salome side of this record is pretty good too, I'm going to have to check out more of this bands stuff.
